language selector disappears before user can switch

Description of the problem

when trying to switch between languages on desktop, there's insufficient time to nav to the menu before it becomes invisible again.

Steps to reproduce it

• mouseover langchooser...
• attempt to switch
• become frustrated
• curse me.

Expected behavior

one should be able to switch languages.
